3 Essential J2ME apps

Unless you like playing games on your mobile (huh?) there are only 3 essential J2ME applications that you need to install when you upgrade to your next 3G phone:

  1. Google Maps - it’s hard to overstate how awesome this application is - from the way zooming works, to traffic overlays, to the turn-by-turn directions UI … it just rocks.
  2. Gmail - you’d be surprised how useful it can be to search your entire Gmail inbox from the road.
  3. Opera Mini - the ability to view whole PC-oriented web pages and zoom into the pieces you care about it is mighty, mighty useful.

The gap in usefulness and user experience between these three and the next tier down is just staggering.
