New title
I have a new title for this blog now, inspired by something that’s been bugging me for a while: the fact that people all around me are continuing to pretend like a lot of their personal information is somehow private, even though it’s trivially accessible all over the Internet.
Why not publish my home address on my homepage (I do, actually, but it’s in a hidden div that contains an hcard at the bottom of the page, just so people don’t think I’m insane). After all, since I’m in the phonebook, anyone can go look it up over at WhitePages.com; since I’ve bought a house, anyone can go look it up on the King County website.
I’m sure it’s possible to remain off the public & Internet records with a significant amount of effort, but for most of the people I run into, I can find out a bunch of things everyone pretends are private with just a few Google searches and some sifting through public records.
