Open Coffee, Seattle Startups

Shout out to Andy Sack for almost a year of Seattle Open Coffee. I still think it’s the best entrepreneur networking event around Seattle. Maybe because it’s in the morning while people are still fresh.

This week I met Max, who runs Wishpot - it’s not hard to see how this could make some serious money, especially given their recent focus on weddings.

The time before I met the co-founders of NightRiot, who had just succeeded in snagging my former colleague Grant as their first employee (good call guys). This twitter ought to give you a sense of their corporate culture :) Notwithstanding their nighttime market research activities, these are some smart dudes and the early beta of their product (which they won’t let me talk about) is looking pretty promising.

I bump into Brian of Noonhat regularly, who continues to get some really good press for his lunch match idea. And I got to meet Josh from Shelfari (check out my profile!) a few weeks ago.

In other startup news, wacky wild Joe says that Illumita is hiring so if you’re into really gnarly infrastructure/OS type work, this is one of the few places in town (not including a certain place in Redmond) where you can work on that kind of thing.

Finally, last night I had the pleasure of presenting briefly at the NWEN Pub Night which had kindly extended an invitation to folks from the Seattle Tech Startups list. Shannon Swift is a lot of fun and really likes her gong.

I tell this story a lot, so forgive me if you’d heard it before … but when I moved to Seattle almost 8 years ago I could pretty much count the interesting, fun tech startups in town on my fingers - now I can’t even keep track of them all. Way cool.
