I’m enjoying reading my spam folder again
Google has done such a fantastic job in eliminating spam from my inbox that I really don’t experience spam day-to-day anymore. In fact, it’s so good I started checking my spam folder a few times a week just to make sure they weren’t being too aggressive in flagging messages as spam (they aren’t).
I think the spammers have figured this out too, because what I’ve noticed over the course of a couple of weeks of reviewing my spam is a gradual but certain improvement in the quality of the taglines they are using in message subjects. At least a couple lately have had me rotfl - not enough to want to click on them, but at least enough to catch my attention. Gone are the deliberate misspellings and clumsy wordings, and what remains looks like a much higher quality of spam - almost as though they assume this stuff is going to end up in a spam folder anyway so it really needs to stand out from the crowd to get attention. And while some of the humor may be unintentional, I suspect more than a little bit of it is deliberate.
At the very least they’ve gotten me looking forward to my occasional scan of my spam folder just to see what they come up with next.
